I’ve always been on the fence about eggnog, that is, until I tried it spiked for the first time last week! (Ya know, since I just turned 21….10 years ago.) :-X I agree with you both that while it’s much better with alcohol, (uh, isn’t everything. I mean, in moderation.) I still can’t drink much of it. It’s so filling!

Loved Christina’s mulled wine at our annual Christmas Eve bash last year! Must admit, I’m probably in the minority of upstate NYers that DON’T like mulled cider, so I was a little unsure of the whole mulled wine idea. Luckily, I was brave and gave it a chance. Now that I’ve tried it…I’m a believer!

Back when I wasn’t much of a wine drinker and blindly attempted to pick out wine as gifts, I’d pick out wine by how neat the label was! I’m sure a few people got some crap wine…but hey, at least the label was pretty. :) I’m more “educated” now. I can still pick out pretty labels, but now I’ve upgraded to yummy wine!

Don’t ask me to choose! Champagne is so darn festive. A big, structured red wine is cozy, and a roasty stout is comforting. I’ve also been getting into the High West whiskey on the cold nights. And we won’t even go into hot chocolate. Liquid chocolate? And spiced apple cider! This is not a fair question. My indecision plus a love of all quality alcoholic beverages plus a love of warm liquids (I could eat soup for every meal)…headspolode.

I think the thing that makes the difference with egg nog is the brand. The fake stuff is disgusting. Egg nog is made with eggs, cream, milk, sugar, and nutmeg. Strauss Creamery makes it with just that. A little goes a VERY long way, sure. But it’s basically just melted ice cream base, and who doesn’t like ice cream? And with Ballast Point 3 sheets rum it’s amaaaaazing!

You know what’s hard? A Christmas where giving wine isn’t an option. My sister’s husband is in recovery, so I wanted to be supportive and skip all things booze related for the holidays. Very outside my comfort zone. Thank goodness for Amazon!

Hey ladies!

My favorite winter beverage is definitley something that the two of you introduced me to (via this podcast) last year– Ice Wine! (Or, Eiswein, as I cannot help but pronounce it :) I tried the Inniskillin last Christmas and felt so fancy– can’t wait to crack open a bottle again this holiday season.

Thanks so much for another wonderful year of podcasting, and a very Merry Christmas!
Sarah

I certainly imbibe more malt whisky in the winter, but my consumption of Bordeaux goes up too. I expect to be reducing my stocks of Chateau Lagrange 1999 by a few bottles over the coming months, and I think I’ve got some Leoville Barton 1997 somewhere!

My favorite drink is always evolving-but something about cold weather actually makes me want to sip an ice-cold vodka martini with a decent amount of vermouth. Makes me less cold, I think, much like drinking hot tea in summer can make you less hot.

This Christmas I’ll be cracking into some of the special beers I’ve been saving. I have a load of US, Belgian and UK beers that I’ve been waiting for the right time to open. Now’s the time! Also have some ports/ice wines/Madeira that Are perfect for this time of year. Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

My favorite is definitely spiced mulled wine. So festive and such a pick me up when handling the mobs of Christmas market goers. I also just got back from Torino, Italy where the hot chocolate is like soup! With a little whipped cream it’s delicious.

If I had to pick one I’d say maybe plain chai, I’m boring like that. But sometimes a splash of bourbon in my chai doesn’t hurt 😉

Ahhh, too hard to choose. Red wine, or champagne or fire in the belly producing whiskey… or my dad’s bourbon sours (Christmas Day tradition).

Dear Christina & Whitney,

You are seriously the best! Thank you so much for the super sweet shout out!! What a lovely early Christmas present. So touched! And Chritina, you are just as lovely in person as you seem in the podcast! Thank you again for taking time out of your vacation to chat and for all the advice! I really cannot say thank you enough!!

Now, on to the booze!

Mulled wine is my absolute FAVORITE holiday drink! Probably because the first time I ever had it was at NYCs Christmas Mecca (aka Rolf’s http://rolfsnyc.com/www.rolfsnyc.com/Seasons_at_Rolfs_Gallery_of_pics/Seasons_at_Rolfs_Gallery_of_pics.html)

I’ve made it at home a few times now, and in addition to all the mulling spices, I really enjoy a little pomegranate juice (and a hint of vanilla sometimes)! Yummm

My other holiday drink: a ridiculous family tradition- a punch my mom makes… Aptly named “christmas punch” as it is the only day of the year we are allowed to have it.
prosecco, sprite, rainbow sherbet, & frozen strawberries (Ill have to Instagram it… So ridiculous)

For wine: Amarone!! (Not that unique, but I love it! It is just so jolly! If Santa was Italian, I think maybe that is what he’d have… )

Anyway, thanks so much again!!
Can’t wait to hear the next podcast Jon 2013!
Happy Holidays!! Cheers!

Thanks for answering my question! I dig the purse analogy. I am passionate about wine; it’s just overwhelming figuring out where to start. I’m very much a novice. I want to taste as much as possible, but there are financial limitations to such an endeavor. Guess I’ll just start where I am. Thanks for the posts, love ’em.
